VILLANOVA, Pa.—The first game of this weekend’s BIG EAST series between Villanova (15-11, 3-9 BIG EAST) and Georgetown (4-13, 4-10 BIG EAST) will be played at Citizens Bank Park at 1 p.m. on Friday afternoon. It will be the sixth time the Wildcats play at the current home of the Philadelphia Phillies and the first BIG EAST regular season game ever played at the venue, which opened in 2004. Due to COVID restrictions in place at the ballpark attendance is limited to two guests per student-athlete. There is no public attendance for Friday’s contest.

In addition to playing Friday’s series opener at Citizens Bank Park, Villanova also announced on Wednesday afternoon that the series against the Hoyas will be shortened to three games. The remainder of the series will be played at the Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth. Saturday’s game will get underway at 1:30 p.m. and Sunday’s contest will begin at 12 p.m. The two weekend home games will be broadcast on Nova Nation All-Access.

Each of the five previous games the Wildcats have played at Citizens Bank Park have been championship games in the Liberty Bell Classic. Villanova last made the championship game of the annual local tournament in 2015 when it was defeated by Rider. The other previous contests for the Wildcats came in 2013 (loss to Delaware), 2011 (win against Delaware), 2005 (win against Lehigh) and 2004 (loss to Lehigh). Villanova is 2-3 overall at Citizens Bank Park after owning a record of 16-12-1 at its predecessor, Veterans Stadium, which was the home of the Phillies from 1971-2003.

Villanova is coming off its first BIG EAST series win since 2017 after taking two of three games at home from Xavier last weekend. The all-time series between the Wildcats and Georgetown dates back to 1898 and Villanova leads the series by a 93-52 margin, including a 76-36 record in regular season BIG EAST games. All 145 games played between the teams have taken place at the home field of one of the two schools. Friday’s contest at Citizens Bank Park will be the first in the series to take place at a neutral site.
