BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week

Stefan Stojanovic, Georgetown, Jr., F (Chicago, Ill.)

Georgetown junior forward Stefan Stojanovic scored the opening two goals in a 3-1 win for the top-ranked Hoyas on Saturday over DePaul. The win gives the Blue and Gray their eighth of the year as Georgetown remains unbeaten. Stojanovic’s goals came back-to-back at 27:13 and 28:38 to give the Hoyas an early 2-0 lead. The junior had six shots in the game. Stojanovic lead the Hoyas in scoring with 10 points off five goals.

BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week

Viktor Benediktsson, Villanova, Jr., D (Hafnarfjörður, Iceland)

Villanova junior midfielder Viktor Benediktsson helped the Wildcats to their third conference win of the season with a one-goal shutout victory over Xavier on Saturday. Benediktsson helped Villanova limit Xavier to eight shots on the day, with only two attempts making it on net. Villanova has posted three consecutive 1-0 victories in BIG EAST play as the Wildcats lead the early standings with nine points. The 3-0 mark in league action is a first for VU since 2004.

BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week

Paul Kruse, Creighton, Sr., GK (Heibronn, Germany)

Creighton keeper Paul Kruse posted back-to-back shutout wins this week as the Bluejays went 2-0-0 in non-conference action. Creighton defeated Nebraska-Omaha 1-0 behind four saves from Kruse. On Saturday, Kruse didn’t need to make a save during his 62 minute of action, but added a combined shutout to his stat line for the season against Illinios-Chicago. The Bluejays won 4-0. It was the first time Creighton recorded consecutive shutouts since September 2018.

BIG EAST Freshman of the Week

Micaah Garnette, St. John’s, Fr., F (Parlin, N.J.)

St. John’s freshman froward Micaah Garnette scored the game-winning goal in the 79th minute in a 1-0 non-conference win against Princeton during midweek action last week. Garnette came off the bench and played 19 minutes against the Tigers. Garnette got the start against UConn on Saturday and played 76 minutes. The Parlin, N.J. native took two shots, one on frame.

BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

Jayden Reid, UConn

Reid scored the lone goal in a 1-1 draw against St. John’s on Saturday, helping the Huskies earn a point in the standings.

Diego Gutierrez, Creighton

Gutierrez totaled five points off two goals and an assist during Creighton’s 2-0-0 non-league week. He scored the game-winner in the 17th minute against Nebraska-Omaha on Wednesday, the school he transferred from. He had three points in a 4-0 win over Illiniois-Chicago.

Lukas Sunesson, Marquette

Sunesson totaled three points (1 goal, 1 assist) in the Golden Eagles’ 2-2 draw against No. 22 Providence on Saturday.

Lucas Bartlett, St. John’s

Bartlett had a three-point week for the 1-0-1 Red Storm last week. He scored SJU’s lone goal in a 1-1 draw at UConn on Saturday and assisted the game-winner against Princeton in midweek action. Bartlett helped an SJU defense that held both opponents to just eight shots on goal.
Johannes Pex, Seton Hall

Pex scored both goals in a 3-2 overtime loss to Fordham during midweek action, Seton Hall’s only contest of the week. Both goals were scored on penalty kicks which were 62 seconds apart.
