Lynchburg, VA – The Villanova Wildcats fell to the #10 Liberty Flames Friday afternoon by a score of 7-0. Villanova’s record now sits at 5-8 overall and 1-3 in the BIG EAST. Liberty improves to 9-2 on the season, 4-0 in conference play. Liberty improved their current winning streak to six games with the win.

The Flames looked to take control of the game from the onset, scoring their first goal just one minute into the contest. The goal came off a penalty corner. Minutes later, at the 6:30 mark, they converted their second penalty corner, to make the score 2-0. To cap off the first period, Liberty added a third goal with just over a minute left in the first period.

In the second quarter, the Wildcats were able to get off their three shots of the match. Anne Drabbe, Meghan Mitchell and Caitlin Van Goeverden all got off solid scoring chances throughout the period. Two of the shots were saved by the goalkeeper, while the third was a defensive save. Liberty added three goals in this period, one coming from a penalty stroke, making the score 6-0 at halftime.

Villanova held their opponent scoreless in the third period, facing six shots in the frame. Late in the period, Sabine de Ruijter recorded a defensive save, adding to her conference leading total of four.

In the fourth, Liberty added one final goal with just under five minutes remaining to make the score 7-0.

For the Wildcats, Claire Borman logged 46:13 in net after coming in at the end of the first period. She recorded a season high nine saves in the contest, beating her previous high of six.
