Brockport, N.Y. – Sophomore Meghan Mitchell has been named to the Mid-Atlantic All-Region First Team by the NFHCA on Monday morning. For the 2021 season, Mitchell was also named to the All-BIG EAST First Team.

The Villanova native had an impressive sophomore campaign, after coming out strong in her freshman season last year. On the season, Mitchell totaled 28 points, by way of 10 goals and eight assists, with 40 shots and 32 shots on goal, all of which are career highs. She was tied for the team lead in goals, and lead the Wildcats in assists, points, and shots on goal after 18 games. For the year, Mitchell finished with the third most goals in the BIG EAST, tied for the second most assists and tied for the fourth highest goal scorer.

Mitchell started the season rolling scoring a tie-breaking goal against Lehigh in the first contest of the season. One week later she posted her first three point game of the season against Bucknell, with a goal and an assist. She would go on to do this six times over the course of the season, with Villanova 5-1 in those games. In the first BIG EAST matchup of the season (9/15), Mitchell scored two goals and had an assist, for five points, propelling Villanova to a 6-3 victory over Providence. To close out the season, she scored the team’s lone goal in the season finale against Georgetown.

The NFHCA Division I All-Region team announcement is the first in a list of postseason awards to come from the NFHCA over the next several weeks.
