Villanova Travels to Georgetown for Season Finale

Worchester, Mass. – The Villanova Wildcats were defeated by a score of 3-2 late Saturday afternoon by the Holy Cross Crusaders. The non-conference loss puts Villanova at 6-11 on the season, while the win improves Holy Cross’ record to 6-8 overall.

Villanova jumped ahead early in the first quarter, after Caitlin Van Goeverden tipped in a ball past the goalkeeper. Meghan Mitchell had an assist on the play, firing in the initial shot. The goal gave Villanova a 1-0 lead just 3:46 into the match.

After holding Holy Cross scoreless for the first period, the Wildcats kept their momentum going into the second frame, earning another clean sheet, holding their 1-0 into halftime. Villanova held a 12-4 shot advantage in the first two quarters, and only allowed one penalty corner.

Just 1:29 into the third quarter, Anne Drabbe found herself open in the front of the net, and fired a ball past the Holy Cross goalkeeper, putting Villanova ahead 2-0 early in the second half. Holy Cross would answer with a score of their own late in the period to cut their deficit to one heading into the final period.

The Crusaders would score two goals, less than one minute apart, in the fourth quarter to take a 3-2 lead.
