Wildcats Swept by No. 24 Creighton

Box Score OMAHA, NE.-Villanova’s Volleyball team was unable to take down the Creighton Blue Jays in a three-set loss. Villanova drops to 12-10 (4-6 BIG EAST) while Creighton improves to 20-3 (8-2 BIG EAST).

Trailing 3-1 in the first set, the Blue Jays set the tone early with a 5-0 run to lead 6-3 and never relinquished their lead. Villanova would battle throughout the set and strung together a 4-1 run late to cut the deficit to 18-16. Despite the run, Creighton took control and won the first set, 25-19.

The second set was the most back-and-forth of the three with nine ties and three lead changes. The Wildcats would remain within striking distance for three quarters of the set. Leading 21-17, the Blue Jays went on a 4-0 run to cement the 25-17 second set win.

Creighton struck first and struck hard in the third set with an 8-1 run. The Blue Jays’ lead ballooned up to 17-3 at one point. Down 22-12, the Wildcats weren’t willing to go down without a fight. Villanova went on a 4-0 run with kills from Kiera Booth and Kathleen Johnson to set the score at 22-16. The Wildcats were able to put two more points on the board but ultimately fell 25-18 in the third set, cementing the match win for Creighton.

Averi Salvador led the Wildcats with 13 digs.

The Wildcats return home for a weekend series starting on Friday, October 29 against Seton Hall. First serve is at 4:30 PM.
